Descriptions de la Matière for piano and electronics


Closing out the programme of the Sond'Ar-Te Electric Ensemble concert on the 11th of November, Elsa Silva will perform "Descriptions de la Matière" for piano solo and electronics by Miguel Azguime that was premiered in June 2016. The work establishes a permanent counterpoint between the piano and its own electronic transformation. "Descriptions de la Matière" is dedicated to the performer Elsa Silva.

Miguel Azguime as narrator at the Sond’Ar-te performance


In the morning of November 10th at O'culto da Ajuda in Lisbon the Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble, with Miguel Azguime and Ágata Mandillo as narrators, and conducted by Pedro Neves, will perform a special repertoire within the Sond’Ar-te project, “Diz-Concerto”, with works by Daniel Martinho, Ângela da Ponte, Sofia Sousa Rocha, and Pedro Rebelo.
A concert-performance to SPEAK poems with music that relates back to the tradition of “Peter and the Wolf” by Prokofiev or “The Carnival of the Animals” by Saint-Saëns.
A staged performance that brings together a narrator and classical orchestral instruments (flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano) to deliver stories through poetry and music.

Filipe Quaresma plays Miguel Azguime in Teatro Sá da Bandeira, Santarém


Filipe Quaresma, one of greatest musicians of his generation, regularly curates his concerts by choosing works by composers whom he both admires and identifies with.
In an attempt to bridge audiences with contemporary Portuguese music, Filipe Quaresma, chose for this concert one of the quintessential cello works, renown the world over, Bach’s Cello Suite n. 1. Nevertheless, the full programme that was recorded in 2014 at Sala Suggia in Casa da Música is mostly devoted to Portuguese works for solo cello.

As part of the 4th International Forum for Young Composers, Miguel Azguime will the lecturing two workshops on music composition. "Compor a electrónica: Técnica e Estética” and "Composição e novas abordagens instrumentais (técnicas instrumentais alargadas, recursos electroacústicos, notação)” with the participation of Francisco Uberto, and Filipe Lopes as well as the Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble musicians.

World Premiere of Trabalho Poético in monographic concert in Cascais


A new piece for soprano and ensemble will be premiered in Cascais, at the Centro Cultural de Cascais, on July 8th. This premiere is integrated in the Festival Internacional de Cultura and the work was commissioned by the city council. Trabalho Poético, for ensemble and soprano, is inspired by the work of the great Portuguese poet Carlos de Oliveira. The performers are Marina Pacheco (soprano) and the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble, directed by Guillaume Bourgogne. In this monographic concert will also be presented a new version of (ThS)inking Survival Kit, a long work for soprano and ensemble. The work will be performed by Frances M. Lynch (soprano) and the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble. (ThS)inking Survival Kit was commissioned by the City of London Festival 2010 and is a kind of “song suite” in 6 cycles with poems by William Shakespeare, James Joyce, Paul Verlaine, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Fernando Pessoa, Luís de Camões, Eugénio de Andrade and Herberto Helder.

World Premiere of Descriptions de la Matière for piano and electronics


Elsa Silva (piano) and Gilberto Bernardes (electronics) will premiere a new work for piano and electronics by Miguel Azguime at the O’culto da Ajuda, in Lisbon, June 11th. The concert is included in the concert cycle Piano Extraordinário (extraordinary piano), with new music for piano by 4 great pianists. Descriptions de la Matière, for piano and electronics, establishes a permanent counterpoint between the piano and its own electronic transformation. The piece is dedicated to the performer Elsa Silva. This concert is part of the “Festas de Lisboa 2016” program.

World Premiere of ConCordas for strings by Camerata Alma Mater


The Camerata Alma Mater will premiere ConCordas at the Música Viva festival 2016, on May 22nd, at O’culto da Ajuda, in Lisbon, under the direction of Pedro Neves. ConCordas, “for 13 solo strings” is a new string orchestra piece written for the Camerata Alma Mater and its conductor, Pedro Neves, to whom the piece is dedicated. The work features a continuous transformation of a unique complex sound aggregate morphing itself into several different states. Here the string orchestra functions as a unit, as if an instrument made of 52 strings (13 x 4 strings).

Portuguese premiere of En Gêne Engin ni Gemme


This work premiered last November in Grenoble, will have its Portuguese premiered in May 20th at the O’culto da Ajuda, within the Música Viva festival 2016, organized by Miso Music Portugal. En Gêne Engin ni Gemme is a piece for chamber ensemble (flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano) and electronic sounds produced by the physical modeling synthesis software Genesis developed at ACROE. The work will be performed by the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble conducted by Petter Sundkvist.

World Premiere of Illuminations for orchestra in Lisbon


A new orchestra work by Miguel Azguime will be premiered in April 24th in the festival Dias da Música em Belém, in Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon. Illuminations will pe performed by the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa, directed by Pedro Carneiro. Besides its particular relationship with poetry (a reference to Rimbaud) the work deals with the idea of “illuminating” a certain musical object and casting a new light on previous musical materials. The orchestra is thus conceived as an instrument of timbral coloration and harmonic lighting.

De Part et d’Autre in Munich by the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble


The Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble played De Part et d’Autre (2011) in Munich, Germany on the 10th of March 2016. The concert took place at the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste, with the support of the Goethe Institut and the Friedrich-Baur Foundation. Under the direction of the conductor Pedro Neves, the concert was performed by Suzanna Lidegran (violin), Filipe Quaresma (cello), Sílvia Cancela (flute), Nuno Pinto (clarinet), Elsa Silva (piano) and Miguel Azguime (electronics). De Part et d’Autre was a commissioned by the French Ministry of Culture and premiere by Ensemble Court-Circuit in Paris. It’s available on CD by Miso Records with a live recording by the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble conducted by Laurent Cuniot.
